CIAC Mission Statement

The California International Arbitration Council (“CIAC”) is a California non-profit organization that supports California and international businesses through the advancement of international arbitration in California.

CIAC believes California sets the global standard in fostering forward-thinking business solutions and a confident investment climate, supported by a strong commitment to the rule of law and the peaceful and efficient resolution of disputes. California’s ethos of innovation, can-do optimism, and its outsized geopolitical and economic importance make it a compelling destination for international arbitration.

Our Purpose

CIAC brings together, informs and supports international arbitration practitioners in California; coordinates international arbitration initiatives in California; collaborates with multiple and diverse arbitration/ADR institutions in promoting arbitration in California; enlists the support of legal, business and government sectors in promoting international arbitration in California; encourages a legislative and judicial environment increasingly favorable to international commercial arbitration in California; promote California to users of arbitration in California and in other jurisdictions worldwide; improves California’s standing as a leading international arbitration venue.
CIAC collaborates with law firms, international arbitration practitioners, Northern and Southern California international arbitration clubs and ADR associations, international arbitral/ADR institutions, California businesses, California trade and lobbying groups, the California state Bar, government leaders, and California universities and academia.
We bring together these various stakeholders to create an inclusive, vibrant community, stimulate collaboration and informed discourse, and drive progress in support of international commerce and investment in California.

Our Objectives

CIAC:
  • coordinates initiatives to promote international arbitration in California;
  • provides online and other informational/education resources to promote California as a leading international arbitration site;
    supports arbitral/ADR institutions, other providers, arbitrators, and law firms in offering international arbitration services in California;
  • engages business and government leaders on the economic benefits of international arbitration in California;
    offers educational outreach to universities, law firms, businesses and other users;
  • identifies or considers development of hearing sites/facilities in Northern and Southern California to support international arbitration in California.

CIAC is not an arbitration institution and does not administer arbitrations or publish arbitration rules.
